Events which support other charities or help raise vital funds to keep our doors open to the community and the Centre functioning.
Umbrella held a small tea party for Barrie Gore who retired from being one of the Trustees after serving on the Board for more than 30 years. He was presented with some art work created by members of the Tuesday art group as a thank you for his many years of dedicated service to the charity and its members. He has promised he will come back to visit and hopefully enjoy some of our celebrations from time to time as an honorary member.

In March Canterbury Rugby Club very kindly dedicated one of their fixtures to the centre. Several Trustees and some members of the Forest of Blean Rotary club collected just over £4,000 from members of the club and generous spectators for which we are very grateful!

Robert cooked a wonderful Easter lunch for Umbrella of roast lamb withy roast potatoes and several fresh vegetables. For dessert he conjured up an amazing chocolate cake filled with as many chocolatey additions as he could. There were other desserts and fruit salad for those diners who were not chocoholics and no one went home hungry!!

Our Valentine’s lunch on February 12th was much enjoyed by everyone. The craft corner had been involved for a couple of weeks before the lunch making decorations and all the tables looked suitably dressed with tablecloths and pink and red carnations. Robert’s delicious lunch menu and amazing dessert were devoured with relish!
We are now looking forward to our Easter lunch on April 16th.

For Canterbury, By Canterbury Workshops – Entertainment created by Canterbury Residents Group and Canterbury Community Group, this lively event has now become an annual Canterbury event and the Umbrella Centre was delighted to contribute to its success in July.

This mime and dance group based at The Marlowe Theatre entertained our visitors again with an interesting free performance. The music and dance and audience participation was much enjoyed.

Umbrella ran a coffee morning on 28th Sept. It was well attended by the community despite the dreadful weather on that day. Visitors enjoyed an amazing array of different cakes. One of our members also gave a short, but thought provoking speech, about her own experiences and feelings on being diagnosed and having treatment for cancer. The Centre raised £107.60 for this worthy cause.

Rosie Duffield kindly spent 1 ½ hours at the centre talking to the staff and Trustees of the Centre and looking at ways to supplement our funding.

The Centre did host a quiz on behalf of the Catching Lives Shelter Charity on Dec 5th.
